WHAT IS DOUBLE GLAZING

Double glazing in doors and windows is the modern standard. Double glazing is simply defined as two panes of glass with a layer of air or gas between each pane of glass. However, there is much more to it than just that. Single glass panes simply cannot keep your property as well insulated as double glazing, especially during cold or windy weather. Since air is a poor heat conductor, a layer of air between the double glazed panes acts as a poor heat conductor or rather a good insulator and prevents heat loss.

The gap between the panes is generally between 12mm and 20mm thick. This gap can be filled with air or often an inert gas, such as Argon, which will increase insulation. Double glazing has many advantages. Most obviously, double glazing reduces noise, prevents draughts and retains the heat to keep the house warm during the cold season. This saves you a lot of money because it lowers your heating and fuel bills. Your house is also more peaceful as noise from outside is reduced significantly. Double glazed doors and windows increase the value and enhance the look of your property. These also provide much better security. Double glazed windows are more difficult and noisy to break and come equipped with a range of security locks and bolts to deter intruders and burglars. They seem to be one of the best options for homes worldwide.
